"Lunchtime Lessons" - Hearty Soups and Salads Demo and Lunch
Join Shannon from as she shows you how to roast your favorite vegetables and make them into blender soups with added flavors and spices for a perfect winter warm-up. She'll prepare pumpkin butternut squash soup with peppered pepitas and creme fraiche. She'll also prepare her spicy black bean soup with chorizo and smoked chile. Shaved brussel sprouts with celery and pomegranate salad will be served as the perfect pairing for a delicious lunch for you to enjoy after the demo.
Shannon Smith is from Tulsa, Oklahoma and has been teaching cooking for 17 years. She has traveled to 35 countries and explored their food cultures, markets, and cooking techniques. She has cooked in restaurants and private homes, and traveled with professional food guides and chefs who teach local cuisines. She and her husband, Phil Smith are also involved in micro-finance programs to help poor people in developing nations, and Shannon has a particular interest in teaching those people how to cook. She has taught cooking in Dominican Republic and Rwanda to women who had their own businesses financed through their micro-loans.
